You may have the right to express your personal opinion about your students, clients, employer, community, industry or colleagues via your personal social media channels. You may have the right to post pictures of your weekend recreational activities on your personal blog or Facebook page. And your employer, clients, colleagues, students, community and industry have the right to think less of you for doing so.
Do So With Care
Common sense demands that you think twice before posting anything that may offend anyone. As my mother loved to remind us, your actions don't have consequences. (Hi Mom!)
Do yourself a favor and let someone else win the legal battle in defense of free speach online. Winning a lawsuit isn't the best way to drive your career, relationships or friendships forward. And you may not win that lawsuit either.
